The founder of Georgonzola, George Hammond is a local lad and has spent more than a decade in the food and drink industry. Familiar to regulars of The Aspinall Arms as one of the beaming faces behind the bar, he has spent the last year working alongside Tom Wood at Blackburn Market, having also spent his formative years at Alpe’s The Butchers, Beech’s Butchers and Booths. You’ve definitely seen him around.
Georgonzola Deli has been in the back of George’s mind for years. A nickname when he was a cheese specialist at Booths, the tag stuck so well that a friend made him a presentation board with ‘Georgonzola’ inscribed in it when he was 20.
